Akira Yano graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. During his time at the U, he learned about, and began organizing around environmental justice (EJ) issues, particularly in Minneapolis.
Over time, Akira saw a pattern of a lack of environmental justice education in his community; for five years, he worked to change that, particularly with youth, by engaging them through mentorship programs, local EJ campaigns, and political advocacy opportunities. Believing that the questions, ideas, and dreams of young people are a necessity to create a just and sustainable world, Akira is dedicated to cultivating safe digital environments for people most impacted by social injustices.
Currently, Akira utilizes his facilitation skills and technological expertise, and passion for political and social change working on the IT and Cybersecurity team at the National Network of Abortion Funds.
